As of this review, I was on Chapter four.
There is a lot of info packed into this book, but also a lot of errors and typos.
The first tutorial web page they walk a person through on pages 114 / 115 has so many errors that it will not look anything like the finished product on page 116.
I wasted a lot of time attempting to figure out what the errors were, having to search other sections of the book for the proper code elements. THEN I had to play with the code elements to learn that the first example cannot be done the way they presented it!
The first tutorial shows this for aligning a headline center (I had to use parenthesis instead of the lesser than < and greater than > symbols so the actual code would show up here):
(p align”center”") (h3)Making Kimchi using an ordered list(h3)(p)
This does not work. It must look like this:
(h3 align=”center”) Making Kimchi using an order list(/h3)
The most frequently missing item is the forward slash / that is supposed to be at the end of nearly all HTML tags, according to the authors! They even say “If your screen differs in appearance slightly, don’t worry about it.”
WHAT GOOD IS A TUTORIAL IF MINE DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE EXAMPLE?!
Just be prepared to have to figure stuff out on your own.

By necessity, the book is large. It covers almost anything you could want to know about web design and as a novice designer, I’ve found it a very useful companion and a fascinating read. It covers everything from the history of the internet and basic HTML to embedding videos in your site and using Javascript. The book contains helpful descriptions of useful programs (both commercially available and free/shareware) and some very astute advice that has clearly been overlooked even by sites as successful as Amazon.com!
However, there are a few drawbacks to the book. Even though it has been recently published, the ever-changing world of the web has rendered aspects of the book redundant while leaving out topics such as Google Chrome’s browser and Google Adsense. No doubt these will be included in a later edition.
In addition, although the index is fairly extensive, I have found difficulties locating precisely the information I need in the book. Having said that, much of the information you will need is contained in these pages – it’s just that you might have to go hunting for it.
In spite of these issues, I’d highly recommend this book to anyone interested in building a web site. It is a very good starting point to get the information you need.

This book contains a huge amount of info and not just the basic info. It has a lot of refreshing ideas and helpful descriptions.
Despite the fact it is large, it is very well organized and some of the topics were presented in a way that even those who are not deeply familiar with site building can understand.
I founded the guide very comprehensive as most of the techniques are written in a basic language allowing you to proceed and learn.
I specially expanded my knowledge in java scripts and my skills in creating dynamic pages. This book shows and explains very well that JavaScript often used to create programs that read and alter values of HTML elements.
The tips for the placing website were practical and I can say it improved my skills.
If I would have to advise somebody who is looking for a comprehensive guide book, in order to have better understanding and time saving techniques, I would definitely recommend this book.
